Behaviour Middleware for Defence Simulation
Entities that make their own decisions
FEATURES
Behaviour Middleware For Training Simulation
Scripted entities stop being convincing as soon as a scenario moves away from the script, and trainees notice. Behaviour is a known weak point in existing simulation environments, because entities that can't adapt put trainees under no real pressure. Kythera ships with a state-of-the-art AI Planning system that lets entities weigh up their situation and surroundings and decide how to act, so they behave like a thinking opponent rather than a fixed pattern of moves. It is engine-agnostic C++ middleware, so the planning system fits into your existing engine and tech stack rather than replacing them.
01
AI Planning, not fixed scripts
Each entity looks at its current situation and decides how to act, rather than running a fixed sequence set in advance. When conditions change partway through a scenario, the entity forms a new plan to match. Because behaviour is worked out on the spot, the scenario doesn't feel scripted to the trainee.
02
More expressive than conventional goal-oriented approaches
Kythera's planning system is more expressive than the goal-oriented planners usually used in simulation, so it can capture more complex decision-making. Entities can take context into account, order their actions towards an objective, and react to events in ways that resemble how real units behave under pressure, whether that is infantry, armour, or air.
03
Adaptive, context-aware decision-making
Because each entity is reasoning about the world, it reacts to events and changing conditions while a scenario is running. That makes scenarios harder to predict, which is what makes them useful practice for the situations trainees will actually face.
04
Less setup, less operator burden
Capable behaviour normally takes a lot of scenario authoring to set up. With Kythera you don't have to script every contingency by hand; entities work out sensible responses themselves, which cuts setup time and the load on operators.
WHY IT MATTERS
What this means for your simulation
Scenarios stay challenging because the entities in them actually adapt, and they take less authoring to build and maintain than fully scripted ones.
